Forest Lake is an outer southern-western suburb of Brisbane, located about 19 km from the CBD. It was the first Master Planned Community within Brisbane City. It features a series of neighbourhoods known as villages as well as retirement village and an apartment precinct adjoining the Forest Lake Shopping Centre.
Forest Lake is sectioned into smaller residential neighbourhoods, each characterised with leafy quiet streets, well-maintained front yards, and a neighbourhood entranceway. Homes are either single- or double-storey brick homes. There are also a few timber colonial-style replicas on the ridges, some with a panoramic view of the city.
Forest Lake perfectly combines wildlife and residential development.
Living in Forest Lake provides a serene and peaceful sanctuary away from the city but still close enough to not miss out on the actions that can only be found in inner cities. However, pests
Cockroach Treatment
Brisbane’s weather is perfect for the outdoor lifestyle, but it is also the kind of weather where cockroaches thrive. They love warm temperatures, especially in areas that reach about 20deg C. You will usually find cockroaches in wet and dark places, so they will shun bright lights. You won’t see cockroaches out in the open on sunny summer days.
Cockroaches can be vectors of various types of bacteria, parasitic worms and even human pathogens. They can cause allergic reactions or cause asthma symptoms, especially in children, because their faeces contain certain proteins called allergens.
To avoid a cockroach infestation, get rid of their food source, point of entry and hiding places in your home or place of business. Being omnivorous scavengers, cockroaches will target any organic food source. But they are not picky as they will consume even items such as books, hair, decaying matters, etc.
If you see signs of a cockroach infestation, get help from your local pest extermination experts for effective solutions for treatment and control.
Termite Threat
Forest Lake’s design and surroundings are award-winning, but the area will always be a haven for termites. This reason is that when the land was cleared to build the master-planned community the trees and shrubs were bulldozed into the soil, burying the termite colonies as well. The new homes were constructed with under slab barriers, but these don’t discourage termites. Once a building shifts, tiny cracks in the barriers are created, and termites will find their way through these cracks.
Termites might be a potential problem if you live or choose to live in Forest Lake. But as long as you do a termite inspection every year without fail, your home will be safe.
Flea Control
A flea infestation is more likely to occur in your home, especially if you have pets. Fleas can quickly leap from the ground to attach themselves to your dogs within a 20-centimetre vertical leap. Their primary and only food is blood. These tiny pests, especially the female, can consume blood 15 times their body weight daily. Fleas are dangerous because they can harm both pets and humans, with bites causing serious anemia and flea allergy dermatitis in pets, and allergic reactions in humans.
By the time you notice that your dog or cat is scratching more the usual, hundreds of flea eggs have already fallen from your pet to the rug and holes in the floor. Call experienced pest control specialists to manage the flea problem in your home or workplace.
Ant Control
Out of all pest control problems, ants are one of the most common. Ants can become a problem when they nest in your home, near your property or in your gardens. Different types of food can attract ants, though sweets, meats or fats are more to their liking.
There are a variety of ant species in Australia; each has unique features, nesting, behaviour and food preferences. The species of ant that are common in Brisbane and other suburbs are: Argentine Ant, Black House Ant, White-Footed House Ant, Coastal Brown Ant, Carpenter Ant, and Bull Ant.
When ants have established their colony already, it’s become harder to control them. Most DIY ant treatments will only exterminate the ants that you can see and is ineffective in the long run. Long-term and effective ant control requires more than surface spray. What you need is to hire your local pest control specialists who know the most advanced ant control product and how to properly apply them.
Spider Control
There are hundreds of different species of spiders, some are harmful and others are not. The females of these eight-legged creatures are usually larger than males. And interestingly, all spider lay eggs.
For spiders that you find in homes, Redback and Whitetail spider seems harmless while the Huntsman, which is big and fast, look scary. However, Huntsman spiders generally pose a threat and would only bite if provoked. They are actually pretty good hunters of bugs, so they help in controlling the population of cockroaches and other insects in homes.
These home spiders are different from fire ants, which are a category 1 restricted pest under the Biosecurity Act 2014. There are specific rules and regulations if you see fire ants or a fire ant colony on your property. Fire ants pose a serious threat to humans and the environment, so residents are encouraged to report them in order to prevent their spread.

High – Very High Risk
According to the Interim Termite Hazard Map by CSIRO, the Brisbane area, where Forest Lake is located, is in the high-risk category for termite infestation.
Because Forest Lake is close to the sea, the area is a good target by drywood termites, which need high moisture content in the timber they attack.
Throughout Queensland, the most commonly found termites are Subterranean termites and Drywood termites.
The West Indian drywood termite, is the world’s most destructive drywood termite. It is the culprit to massive economic damage to timber houses in Queensland, including properties in Forest Lake.
