Bald Knob is a rural town in the Sunshine Coast Region. It is located 78 km north of Brisbane on the Blackall Range in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
As of 2016, there were 253 residents there.
There are two mountains in Bald Knob: Bald Knob and Wilkes Knob. It is also home to several parks, including Bald Knob Lookout, Landsborough-Maleny Road Park, MacDonalds Road Environmental Reserve and Upper Mooloolah Nature Refuge.
One of the must-see attractions is the Skipper Musk Teahouse Lookout, located on the Landsborough Maleny Road.
There are not many residents in Bald Knob, but even less populated localities can experience an infestation from various pests like termites, rodents, ants, etc. This is due to our climate and natural environment.
Rodents cause damage to property, making holes and chew marks on parts of buildings such as walls and wirings. They also carry diseases, which makes them a health risk to you and your family. There is usually an uptake of rodents with the onset of colder weather as they attempt to enter homes in search of warmth and shelter.
There are several signs of rodent presence in your property: droppings on the floors, a strong urine odour, holes and gnaw marks on fruits, food packets, walls etc., and scratching and running noises inside the walls or in the ceilings, especially at night.
It’s not a good feeling and a good sight to see rodents scurrying around your house. You can keep rats away from making sure you keep your food in tight containers and never leaving food scraps anywhere.
It is not common to see cockroaches crawling during the day. If you do, it means you may have a cockroach infestation.
It doesn’t take much to have a cockroach infestation. These insects malt quite a few times during their life cycle, so they can build up a large colony in a short period of time. Cockroaches can pose a health risk, so an immediate control and extermination are necessary.
Silverfish are a primitive insect with a long lifecycle. Though they are not a major pest problem, unlike termites or rodents, having silverfish in your home is still not a good sight.
Silverfish prefer dark areas and feed on books, photographs, wallpapers and other items with high starch content. Silverfish should be taken seriously because they may not be vectors of diseases but they can cause damage to your precious personal belongings.

Spiders have been around for millions of years, and people have developed a love-hate relationship with them. Some people don’t mind them, but others have a real fear of them that an actual word has been coined for it: arachnophobia.
In reality, out of the thousands of spider species only a few are considered as pests and/or deadly. Spider are natural pest controllers because they prey on other insects like mosquitoes and flies.
However, spider infestation should be treated seriously because the sight of spider webs is never a good sight in any home and reflects badly on the occupants.
There are about 300 different species of termites, with a few having significant impact on houses and buildings. In regions like Queensland that is considered high-risk for termite infestation, termite barriers, where physical or chemical, are the key to ensure homes are protected.
Termites cause expensive damage to thousands of homes and buildings in Australia each year. The Sunshine Coast, where Bald Knot is located, will always be a red zone for termite activity. This is because of the type of soil and almost perfect weather that we enjoy.
If you find termites or a termite colony in your property, do not disturb them. The best thing to do is call the experts to investigate, treat and control. If left untreated, these pests are capable are crossing over steel to breach the wooden parts of your home.
Ants can be a problem on the Sunshine Coast. The natural habitat for these insects is the outdoors. They become a pest once they enter our homes and businesses and decide to stay.
These social insects are capable of travelling long distances, above or underground, to get to their food target. They produce a chemical that allows ants to follow their fellow ants to the food source.
Ants can be found on walls, roof voids, trees, pretty everywhere. They can also be found in old termite colonies.
