Benowa is a Gold Coast suburb, located 3 km west of the coastal town of Surfers Paradise. It is popular for its canals, which offers easy access to the Nerang River.
It has a population of 8,741 people.
The quiet, leafy suburb has three main areas: Established Benowa on the northern side of Ashmore Road, Benowa Hills on the rising slopes west of the Benowa Road, and Benowa Waters, an exclusive community south of Lake Capabella.
Many of the homes built around the 1980s are being renovated because of demand from people who are drawn to the suburb due to its proximity to Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, and the wide range of facilities and amenities available.
These services include the Benowa Gardens Shopping Centre, private hospital, golf course, three schools (public and private). Benowa is also the home of Gold Coast City’s Regional Botanic Gardens.
There are different types of homes in Benowa, including dry blocks, duplexes, townhouses, and the more affluent waterfront properties build on lake, canal or Nerang River frontages.
In addition to being a family-friendly suburb, Benowa is also a haven for boating or fishing enthusiasts with its extensive waterways.
The following are the types of pests that are treated by pest control specialists in Benowa.
Ants are present all-year round. This is true for Queensland because of the high humidity, heat and rain. Inside your home, ants are typically found in the kitchen, cupboards, bathroom, laundry, along pathways, and anywhere they can find food and water.
Seeing tracking ants is annoying and unpleasant. Ants also contaminate food. Plus, there are species of ants that give a nasty bite, which can cause allergic reactions in some people.
Cockroaches are notorious for spreading illnesses and seeing them gives people a yucky feeling. This is justified because cockroaches are unhygienic. They carry illness-causing bacteria that can be passed on to humans.
They thrive in moist, dark places, located near sources of food and water. They can multiply quickly and can survive extremely hot and extremely cold temperatures.
The common species of cockroaches that can be found in Queensland are: American Cockroaches, which can be found in wet, coastal areas; Australian Cockroaches, a non-native species that are largely found outdoors; and German Cockroaches, which are usually found in cooking areas, coffee shops, bars, restaurants, and residences.
There are hundreds of species of spiders in Australia. Some are harmless while others are venomous. There are spiders that choose to stay outdoors and spin their web in the garden or near lights, and there are those who try to come inside homes.
Spiders are more active as the weather starts to turn cold because a lot of them will be coming out of their hiding locations to search for a mate. Some species die as autumn ends while other hibernate until spring, then emerge during summer.
You will discover spiders in dark, deserted areas of the house where they can spin their web and not be disturbed. If you see a significantly higher number of webs outside or see spiders running around, it is safe to say that there is a spider infestation.

Rats and mice can destroy homes and businesses, both economical and health wise. Being omnivores, rats will eat just about anything. It doesn’t help that their constantly growing incisors compel them to gnaw constantly at objects, including clothes, furniture and even cables.
These pests can be found in various locations around the house, including voids, wall cavities, cupboards, boxes, furnishings and tunnels in the gardens. They can enter places of businesses, especially those in food production.
Silverfish, as tiny as they are, are considered as a pest because of their ability to create damage around the house. They can do this by feeding on books, wallpapers, clothing and other items that contain carbohydrates. Silverfish also feed on human food, especially grains and sugar.
These agile, nocturnal pests prefer dark locations, so they can usually be found in kitchen cabinets, bathtubs, restroom sinks, garages, sheds, roof voids, wall cavities, etc. Silverfish can also be seen in wardrobes, storage boxes and piles of paper.
According to the CSIRO, 1 in 4 homes in Australia will be attacked by termites in its lifetime. South East Queensland is listed as one of the regions in the country that is at high risk for termites.
Termites may be so far from your house, but they can travel a long distance and enter through any crevice at ground level, such as cracks in mortar joints. But termite usually enter from underground, which allows them to remain undetected until they have made significant damage to a property.
Because of this, experts recommend that property owners order a termite inspection at least every 12 months.
With more than 12,00 species of wasps in Australia, they can only be identified by size and colour. One of the most dangerous species is the European Wasp, an introduced species that thrived, thanks to Australia’s heat and wet weather as well as the absence of predator. They are damaging not only to people and pets but also to farmers and their crops.
The nest of wasps can be anywhere, including in the ground, tree stumps, wall cavities, roofing, under ceilings or window sills, awnings, or near hedges. If you see a wasp nest or suspect where it might be, call experienced pest control experts to remove the nests.

High – Very High Risk
According to the Interim Termite Hazard Map by CSIRO, the Gold Coast area, where Benowa is located, is in the high-risk category for termite infestation.
Because Benowa is close to the sea, the area is a good target by drywood termites, which need high moisture content in the timber they attack.
Throughout Queensland, the most commonly found termites are Subterranean termites and Drywood termites.
The West Indian drywood termite, is the world’s most destructive drywood termite. It is the culprit to massive economic damage to timber houses in Queensland, including properties in Benowa.
