Cleveland is a coastal and central locality of Redland City, with a population of 14,801 people as of 2016.
It is located on the western shores of Moreton Bay, roughly 25 km east-south-east of Brisbane. There are commercial, residential and industrial areas, as well as regional government offices and various cultural facilities.
One of its main features is the Toondah Harbour, where the Stradbroke Island Ferry Terminal is located. The terminal is used by water taxis and ferries going to North Stradbroke Island. Toondah Harbour is in an area of coastal wetlands and features sandbanks, mudflats and mangroves, which are home to various wildlife, including dugongs, turtles and varieties of shorebird species.
Lifestyle in Cleveland
This lovely waterside suburb offers a relaxed lifestyle and a safe family-friendly environment with its leafy streetscape, green spaces and character homes.
Families choose this neighbourhood for its excellent schools, numerous sporting clubs and regular community events. The peaceful, waterside lifestyle it offers attracts established couples and retirees.
The Raby Bay Harbour Precinct and nearby foreshore areas feature a vast public domain, covering fishing spots, quaint parklands and playgrounds, swimming beaches, parklands and playgrounds, and food and entertainment precincts.
Cleveland is a beautiful coastal suburb that is perfect for families. However, like other suburbs of Redland City, Cleveland is vulnerable to pests like termites due to Queensland’s hot, humid weather conditions and leafy environment.
Termite Treatment
Termites, or white ants, feed on cellulose that are present in wood, timber, paper). They will eat their way into a home from under the floors, wall cavities, plumbing works and even the joints in building structures. They can eat away at your home without your knowing, hence termites are also called silent destroyers.
Each termite species thrives in different environments and go after different kinds of food, but all termites need four things to survive: food, moisture, shelter and right temperature. But sadly, all homes, regardless of their construction type, are vulnerable to termite attack.
Termites feed on dead plants and trees as well as the dead parts of living trees. Termites might be tiny but they are capable of tearing large chunks of wood. This aggressive feeding habit makes termites capable of causing significant damage to property. Some of the possible feeding sites for termites include house foundations, furniture, shelves, books, carpets and insulation.
Termites are a serious threat to property because termite colonies work 24 hours a day. Signs of termite infestation can stay hidden until significant damage is done. Home insurance doesn’t usually cover termite damage, so it is essential to have your home inspected for termites at least once a year.
Ant Control
Ants are a common problem not just in Queensland but in all of Australia. It is difficult to control ants, but there are certain ant behaviours you should know to keep these pests away from your home.
They can pass through tiny cracks to gain access to properties in search of water and sweet or oily foods in the kitchen and food preparation areas. Worker ants leave a scent trail for other ants to follow once they have found food. The number of ants you see can go from a few to a multitude in a short period of time. You can usually find their nests just about anywhere in your home, especially in the walls, lawns, stumps, even under foundations. A colony, which can live for a very long time, can house up to 300,000-500,000 ants.
It is generally not a good idea to treat ants yourself. These treatments only kill the ants that you see. The most effective solutions will destroy nests and help prevent ants from coming back.

Cockroaches are a threat to your health and property. Here are important things you need to know to help you control these nasty pests.
Your home is the perfect sanctuary for cockroaches because it has sufficient food sources, warmth, water and nesting sites. They can remain active all year round and can reproduce quickly in large numbers. Since cockroaches are active only at night, that one cockroach you’ve seen probably has many other “friends” in hiding. And the few cockroaches you see during the day may likely have been forced out due to overcrowding. If this were the case, then you may have a serious case of cockroach infestation.
Cockroaches are good at hiding, and their eggs are excellently protected against insecticides. With special equipment from qualified pest specialists, cockroach control can be unsuccessful.
Rodent Control
Rodents’ instinct makes them hard to trap and control. If you’re dealing with a rodent infestation, here’s what you need to know.
Rats somehow instinctively know how to evade traps, baits and other control measures. They usually build a nest in attics, burrows, beneath concrete and porches, wall voids and other hard to reach places. They can spread various diseases and can also introduce disease-carrying parasites into your home such as ticks, lice and fleas.
Mice invade properties in search of food, water and warmth. If you ignore a mice problem, a pair of mice can breed 200 offspring in four months. Mice can contaminate the food you eat.
Silverfish Treatment
Silverfish can thrive in most climates, but they love dark, damp sites like basements, roof voids, kitchens and bathrooms. Silverfish will usually be found in stored boxes in garages and sheds, feeding paper and damp clothing, which contain carbohydrates, particularly sugars and starches. Other potential food sources are cellulose, shampoos, linen, silk, glue in books, and dead insects.
Silverfish are known to be found in unopened food packages as well.
Spider Control
Spiders like redback, Huntsman and black house spiders can enter your home through windows and doors, as well as on firewood.
Some species make unsightly spiderwebs and other species bite that can be painful and sometimes require medical attention. There are some that prefer moisture and stay in basements, crawl spaces and other moist areas of a building. Meanwhile, other species love dry, warm areas like subfloor air vents, upper corners of rooms and roof voids.
There are many species of spiders and it’s really not easy to identify which species has invaded your home. You can easily take care of a spider or two in your home, but a serious infestation requires the help of a qualified pest removal specialist.

High – Very High Risk
According to the Interim Termite Hazard Map by CSIRO, the Redlands area, where Cleveland is located, is in the high-risk category for termite infestation.
Because Cleveland is close to the sea, the area is a good target by drywood termites, which need high moisture content in the timber they attack.
Throughout Queensland, the most commonly found termites are Subterranean termites and Drywood termites.
The West Indian drywood termite, is the world’s most destructive drywood termite. It is the culprit to massive economic damage to timber houses in Queensland, including properties in Cleveland.
