Petrie Terrace, an inner suburb in the City of Brisbane, is located 2.1 km west of the Brisbane General Post Office.
Per the 2016 Census, the suburb had 1,124 residents.
It is bounded to the west by Hale Street, to the east by Countess Street, to the north by Musgrave Road and to the south are Milton Road and Upper Roma Street.
Good things come in small packages, and this is true for the smallest suburb in Brisbane. Despite at only 0.33 sq km in size, Petrie Terrace gets top scores for access to cafes, culture, retail, transport, employment and schools.
Petrie Terrace, a major thoroughfare, is home to the popular Caxton Street Precinct, which features various entertainment amenities including pubs, sports bars and wine lounges as well as cafes, restaurants and theatre venues.
It’s one of the few Brisbane suburbs with houses that look similar to that of Sydney and Melbourne, where cottages are built on small blocks of land in narrow streets erected directly on top of the footpaths.
What it lacks in open spaces and tree cover, Petrie Terrace makes up for easy access to the city and virtually all amenities that you can expect from a liveable suburb.
Even a small suburb like Petrie Terrace can have problems with pests like rats, mice, termites, ants, etc. It has a thriving commercial precinct, which means mess and trash, which can attract pests.
There are over 3500 species of cockroaches around the world. In Australia, the most common types are the American, German and Oriental cockroach. They feed on a variety of food and have a dirty lifestyle that harbouring them in your home pose a health risk.
Cockroach infestation must be addressed because cockroaches spread diseases by contaminating everything they crawl on, such as food, cutlery and surfaces. They can trigger asthma and allergic reactions and leave a strong, unpleasant odour.
Ants live in large colonies and have a bite that sting. With more than 10,000 species around the world, only about 25 species are pests. Their lifespan usually ranges from several weeks to several years.
The most common species of ants in Petrie Terrace include Black/Carpenter Ant, Fire Ant and Brown Ant. Ant infestation should be avoided because ants cause food spoilage, damage to appliances and electrical equipment, damage to roofs and walls, and they make a home look messy and unhygienic with their presence.
One of the most effective ways to keep ants away is to store your food properly. Ants have keen sense of where food can be found and they leave an invisible chemical trail that allow other ants to follow.
Rats and mice are two common rodent type that infest Petrie Terrace homes and buildings. They differ in many ways. The most obvious is that rats are larger than mice. However, mice can wreak greater havoc because they produce more droppings per day compared to ats.
Mice have weaker teeth than rats, so they cannot chew on harder items such as plastics. Mice have better climbing skills, thus rats are usually found in the basement while mice love attics and ceilings.
Rodents, whether they be mice or rats, live dirty lifestyles and cannot be left unchecked in homes. They can transmit diseases to humans with the bacteria they carry in their bodies.

Mosquitoes are a part of life in Petrie Terrace that residents constantly worry about the disease they can transmit. They are deadlier than any other pests, causing nearly 1 million deaths around the world every year.
These blood-sucking pests are the leading cause of malaria and are also known to spread Zyka virus, Ross River fever, dengue and Yellow Fever. All these diseases are potentially life-threatening, making mosquitoes one of the most dangerous insects in the world.
Eliminating mosquito is a bit of a challenge, particularly because their larvaes can remain viable for years without hatching.
These wingless insects are commonly dirty areas. You know you have a silverfish infestation if you find holes in your books and clothes.
Silverfish move fast, which makes them hard to capture. They are considered as a pest because they feed on people’s personal belongings, especially those with starch in them. Silverfish will usually be found in closets, storage rooms and beneath the refrigerator.
Spider infestation is common in Petrie Terrace. They can now be found in both urban and rural areas. Because a spider bite can be fatal, spider control and treatment is essential.
There are thousands of species of spiders, but the common ones are the Wolf Spider, Black House Spider, Mouse Spider, Funnel-web Spider, Redback Spider, Huntsman Spider, and more.
Spider removal experts are trained to determine the species of spiders they discover and recommend the right control and treatment.
