Everton Park was known as Kedron until 1891, before taking its current name from the Everton homestead built by pioneer settlers William and Ambrose McDowall.
A sawmill operated here from 1886 to 1911, feeding off the nearby Bunya railway timber reserve, and the suburb stayed a small, slow-growing settlement (population under 400 in the mid-1950s) before a rapid 1960s-70s building boom reshaped it into the suburb it is today. That combination of old sawmill-era land and a dense layer of postwar brick homes is why pest control Everton Park work spans two very different housing generations. Bob Gunn Termite & Pest Control has serviced Brisbane's northside for 25+ years with our own in-house technicians.

Everton Park's long run as a timber-milling settlement, from 1886 to 1911, left plenty of old-growth stumps and sawmill-era structures in the ground well before most of today's houses were built. Then came the suburb's real growth phase: a rapid 1960s-70s boom that filled most of the remaining blocks with brick and brick-veneer homes. Pest control Everton Park work has to account for both layers: old timber from the milling era, and now-ageing postwar housing that's had 50-plus years to develop termite issues. Every termite treatment Everton Park and general pest control Everton Park visit we run reads which layer a property sits in.
A suburb built on old sawmill land and filled out in one fast 1960s-70s boom has a specific risk pattern: old timber in the ground, and a large stock of homes all approaching the same age milestone. A pest control Everton Park provider needs to recognise both.
Our pest control Everton Park service covers the suburb's full housing age range, from older interwar pockets to the bulk of its 1960s-70s boom-era homes.

More on termite inspections →Barrier systems designed for Everton Park's mostly 1960s-70s housing stock, now old enough to need a thorough reassessment of any original protection.
More on termite treatment →Treatment for ants, cockroaches, spiders and silverfish common across the suburb's established gardens and older timber fencing.
More on general pest control →Baiting and entry-point sealing for rats and mice, particularly in roof cavities of older brick-veneer homes from the boom era.
More on rodent control →Before it was Everton Park, this area was known as Kedron, named for the brook running through it, until 1891. The current name comes from Everton, the homestead of pioneer settlers William James and Ambrose McDowall, itself named after a suburb of Liverpool, England. Non-Indigenous settlement dates to the 1850s (in 1857, a settler named Genery purchased 153 acres on the northern bank of Kedron Brook) and the Everton Park Estate was offered for sale by public auction in 1885. A sawmill, drawing on timber from the nearby Bunya railway reserve, operated in the area from 1886 until 1911, and the local post office, first registered under the name Bunyaville, was later renamed Everton Park.
Growth stayed slow for decades: the population was still under 400 in the mid-1950s. Then came a rapid building boom through the 1960s and 70s that transformed Everton Park into the established residential suburb it is today, filling out most of its remaining land with brick and brick-veneer houses on standard suburban blocks. The suburb's boundaries have also shrunk over time, with the northern section truncated to form the later suburb of McDowall. What's left is a suburb carrying two distinct termite risk factors: old-growth timber and stumps from more than two decades of sawmill operation, still present in the ground on some original-era blocks, and a large stock of 50-plus-year-old homes that have had plenty of time to develop activity if they haven't been checked regularly.
For homeowners, that means an Everton Park property's risk depends on both its construction era and its position relative to the original sawmill and timber-reserve land. We check for both on every visit rather than assuming a single pattern across the whole suburb.
Alongside pest control Everton Park, we service the surrounding Kedron Brook corridor and northside suburbs, with termite treatment and general pest control visits scheduled efficiently across the area.

Yes, on properties built on the original sawmill-era land. Timber from more than two decades of milling operation, including old stumps and offcuts, can still be present in the ground and gives termite colonies a long-term food source well before any activity reaches a house.
It's worth a proper inspection. Homes from this era are now over 50 years old, which is plenty of time for termite activity to develop, especially if the property hasn't been checked regularly.
We recommend annual inspections for homes over 30 years old, which covers most of the suburb's boom-era housing stock.
Yes. Older timber structures are a common entry point for termites and we check them as part of every inspection, not just the main house.
No, it's smaller: the northern section was truncated to form the suburb of McDowall. We service both Everton Park and McDowall as part of the same local area.
Cost depends on property age and whether termites are already active. We provide a fixed, written quote after inspection.
Everton Park is a residential suburb about 8-9km north-west of the Brisbane CBD, known as Kedron until 1891 and shaped by a timber-milling industry that ran from 1886 to 1911 before a rapid 1960s-70s residential boom filled out the suburb. That mix of old sawmill-era land and a large stock of now-ageing postwar housing is central to how we plan every pest control Everton Park job.
