Kedron takes its name from the brook that runs through it, named by German Moravian missionaries who settled near Nundah in 1838 after the biblical Kedron River.
For decades the brook itself was lined with tanneries and farms intense enough to draw pollution complaints, and the Kedron Park Hotel, built in 1880, turned the area into a hub for horse races, polo and sports days before John Wren acquired the park as an unregistered pony track in 1911. Today Kedron is a denser, more built-up suburb (its apartment stock has grown by 50% in the last decade) but the brook still defines the suburb's termite risk the way it's defined Kedron's character for over 180 years. Bob Gunn Termite & Pest Control has serviced Kedron for 25+ years with our own in-house technicians.

Kedron Brook has shaped this suburb since the 1838 missionary settlement that gave it its name, through a century of tanneries and farms along its banks, right up to today's mix of older houses and fast-growing apartment developments. Properties near the brook deal with the same moisture-driven termite pressure that's common to any Brisbane suburb built around a creek corridor: soil that stays damp for longer after rain, supporting sustained subterranean termite activity. Pest control Kedron work also increasingly covers multi-unit apartment buildings, a newer property type for a suburb that was farmland well into the 20th century. Every termite treatment Kedron and general pest control Kedron visit factors in both.
A suburb built around a historically polluted, farm-and-tannery-lined brook, now adding a wave of new apartment developments, needs a pest control provider who understands both its older housing stock and its newer density.
Our pest control Kedron service covers the suburb's full range of property types, from older brook-adjacent houses to its growing stock of apartment buildings.

More on general pest control →Kedron's name comes directly from the brook, named by German Moravian missionaries who formed a settlement near Nundah in 1838 to protect local Aboriginal people, taking the name from the biblical Kedron River. Local shopkeeper and postman John King adopted the Kedron name for the locality in the early 1890s. Early settlers included the Barron family, who arrived in 1856, and Judge Alfred Lutwyche, who bought 50 acres in 1862 and built his residence, Kedron Lodge. A wooden bridge carried traffic over the brook from around 1875, a tram line reached it by 1914, and Brisbane City Council replaced it with a new bridge in 1927.
For much of its history, Kedron Brook itself was a working waterway rather than a scenic one: farms and tanneries lined its banks, and the pollution got bad enough to draw formal complaints. The Kedron Park Hotel, built in 1880, brought a different kind of activity to the area: its proprietor started horse races, polo matches and sports days at Kedron Park, and in 1911 the colourful figure John Wren acquired the park as an unregistered pony track. The district's local government, the Kedron Shire, was formed in 1903 with offices at Chermside, before Brisbane City Council absorbed it in the 1925 amalgamation.
Kedron's population dipped from 12,133 in 2006 to 9,907 in 2021, even as its apartment stock grew by 50% over the past decade, a sign of the suburb's shift toward denser, multi-unit living. That brook, still running through the suburb, continues to define termite risk the way it always has: properties closest to it deal with persistently damp soil, while the suburb's newer apartment buildings bring a different kind of pest management need entirely, more akin to strata and common-area hygiene than a standard house inspection.
Alongside pest control Kedron, we service the surrounding Kedron Brook corridor suburbs, with termite treatment, general pest control and multi-unit hygiene visits scheduled efficiently across the area.

The historic contamination itself isn't the main concern now, but the brook's role as a persistent moisture source for nearby soil is; it's kept termite conditions favourable along its banks for well over a century.
Yes. With the suburb's apartment stock up 50% in the last decade, we run inspection and hygiene programs suited to multi-unit and strata properties as well as standalone houses.
We recommend annual inspections for brook-adjacent properties, given the long-term moisture conditions along that waterway.
The suburb's recorded population dropped between the 2006 and 2021 censuses even as apartment numbers grew, suggesting smaller average household sizes rather than less development; either way, it doesn't change our approach to each individual property.
Properties from Kedron's earliest settlement era, dating back to the 1850s-60s, generally need the fuller assessment that genuinely old housing stock requires, regardless of specific historical ties.
Cost depends on property type (house or apartment) and proximity to the brook. We provide a fixed, written quote after inspection.
Kedron is a northern Brisbane suburb named after the brook that runs through it, first named by missionaries in 1838 and formally adopted as the area's name in the early 1890s. Its history of brook-side farms, tanneries and the Kedron Park pony track has given way to a denser modern suburb, with apartment stock up 50% in the past decade, a shift that's central to how we plan every pest control Kedron job.
