Its proximity to the city and other sought-after suburbs provides Newstead residents a youthful suburban lifestyle in an easily accessible inner-north location.

Potential Risks for Pest Infestation

Newstead structures and buildings are vulnerable to attack by various types of pests. The most effective way to keep them away is being proactive when protecting your property and calling professional pest specialists immediately upon discovery of any infestation.

Ant Control

There are a few thousand species of ants, but only a few significantly affect human habitation. Ants are common in Australia and they could become out of control during the summer months. Two species that are most concerning are Blacks and Coastal Brown Ants as they build large ants in and around properties.

Their nests can be found in the dirt, wood, under pavers, wall cavities or roof gaps. Ants have the ability to travel long distance to hunt for food and water and will take whatever they foraged back to their nest.

Ants are present all-year round, and they are typically more active during periods of high humidity. They can also be found crawling around food preparation areas in hopes of finding leftovers that were not properly stored or disposed.

Cockroach Control in Newstead

Cockroaches are one of the most primitive insects in the world, with origins dating back to at least 300 million years. Little has changed in their general body form from the time they first appeared on earth.

They are one of the most highly adaptable insects on earth, with the ability to live and thrive in virtually all types of environments, including land and water. Out of the thousands of species of cockroaches, there are only about 10 species that directly impact human habitation.

Some species have evolved into excellent scavengers, able to co-habit successfully with humans. It is important to get rid of cockroaches as soon as you discover them to stop them from reproducing and infesting your food and your home.

Spider Removal

There are hundreds of species of spiders in Australia. The spiders that you are most likely to across are Garden Wolf Spiders, Redback Spiders, White-tail Spiders and Huntsman Spiders

Garden Wolf Spiders are ground crawlers and are most common in the southern and the eastern states. They are typically harmless but will bite if provoked.

Redback Spiders are all over Australia. The females are dangerous and should be avoided at all costs, while the males don’t attack humans. Redbacks are commonly found in dry areas such as sheds, garbage and logs.

White-tail spiders are also ground crawlers and prey on other spiders. They are found mostly in Southeast Australia, co-habiting with humans and hiding in cabinets, bathrooms and holes.

Huntsman Spiders are common in most parts of Australia and can be found lurking indoors, beneath tree barks or cars during the daytime. Though it’s rare for them to bite, but when they do the bite is quite uncomfortable. Despite the fact that it is probably the largest species of spiders, Huntsman spiders are passive and timid.

Spiders are mostly active at night when they hunt for food, which are other insects and spiders. They tend to become livelier when the weather turns colder, as they come out of their hiding places in search of a companion.

Rodent Control in Newstead

Rats and mice can cause damage to commercial and residential properties, resulting in loss of goods, inventories. They also pose serious health risks to inhabitants of these properties.

Being omnivores, there is no food or object they don’t like. They will consume all types of foods as well as household items, including wood, electrical wires, house frames, plaster boards, etc. The constant gnawing also serves the purpose of controlling their incisors, which are constantly growing.

The most common rodents that invade properties are House mouse, Norway Rat, Roof Rat and Roof Rat.

The House mouse is the culprit for mouse plagues in Australia. They prefer dry locations and as such they will often be found nesting in roof or ceiling areas, in furniture or wall surfaces. Their preferred food is grains.

Norway Rat, or brownish rat, water rat or drain rat, tend to be aggressive if threatened. They can live outdoors or indoors, living in sewers, around rivers, and dig burrows into the ground.

Roof Rat, or Black Rat, the smallest among different rat species, are usually found in roof areas. They are timid, but are very excellent climbers. Because they are very small, they can easily squeeze into gaps and holes in buildings.

Mosquito Control

It only takes six to 10 days for mosquitoes to develop from larvaes to grownups. The larvaes can be found in standing water.

Mosquitoes typically bite at dawn or sunset, or both times of the day. This is when their internal clock tells them it’s time to feed.

Mosquitoes can be annoying with their constant buzzing and penchant to bite. However, they are far more lethal than that. These pests are the culprit of millions of death throughout history. Even today, their bite carries viruses that transmit deadly diseases like malaria and dengue fever.

TERMITE INFESTATION IN NEWSTEAD QLD

Newstead Termite Hazard Level

High – Very High Risk

Termite Hazard Level Gauge image

According to the Interim Termite Hazard Map by CSIRO, the Brisbane area, where Newstead is located, is in the high-risk category for termite infestation.

Because Newstead is close to the sea, the area is a good target by drywood termites, which need high moisture content in the timber they attack.

Termite Images Suburb

Throughout Queensland, the most commonly found termites are Subterranean termites and Drywood termites.

The West Indian drywood termite, is the world’s most destructive drywood termite. It is the culprit to massive economic damage to timber houses in Queensland, including properties in Newstead.

  • A coastal environment like Wynnum is prone to termite and vermin attacks.

  • The number one thing that attracts termites is water or moisture. It is almost a guarantee that if a home has water leakage problems, it will soon be invaded by termites, if it hasn’t been already.

  • Damage to homes, whether made from weatherboard, is likely if termites, or white ants, are left unchecked.
