Pest Control in Boondall

Boondall is Brisbane suburb, formerly called Cabbage Tree Creek, which is the name of the creek that flows through the suburb.

Based on the 2016 Census, Boondall had 9,217 residents.

It is located about 13.5 km north of Brisbane near Moreton Bay, almost between Brisbane and Redcliffe City. Its boundary is loosely delineated by the Cabbage Tree Creek (Tighgum) to the north and then down to Muller Road in the west.

The Boondall Wetlands are located in the east of the suburb. These wetlands span over 1,000 hectares of protected areas that provide habitat to diverse range of animals, including over 190 species of birds.

The residential district is mainly located on the East and West of Sandgate Road.

On the east side, next to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, is the College Green estate. It comprises mostly of single storey brick-and-tile homes on small blocks. Some areas on this side are low-lying and therefore, prone to flooding.

On the west side, most of the houses were constructed before the 1980s and comprises a mix of brick and weatherboard homes. The homes are mostly two-storey.

This is a family-friendly suburb with good schools, public transport and plenty of parks. It is also close to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, where live events like concerts are held.

Potential Risks for Pest Infestation

Boondall is wet and swampy areas and it’s an older, well-established suburb with lots of wooden-framed homes and well-established gardens. These factors make the suburb vulnerable to termite attack. It is a great place to live for nature lovers, but it also has its drawbacks when it comes to home ownership.

Here are some of the pests that cause problems in Boondall.

Rodent Control in Boondall

Rats and mice are a problem because they transmit diseases to humans. They are dirty because their habits and lifestyles find them in sewers, rubbish bins and anywhere where germs and bacteria can be picked up.

They scavenge for food and will be eat just about anything, even pet foods. These are easily accessible to rodents because pet bowls are often located outside the laundry area or back door.

Cockroach Control

Only a few out of the hundreds of species of cockroaches found in Australia are considered as pests. The most common of species are the Brown Banded Cockroach and the German Cockroach.

The brown Banded Cockroach prefers drier environments around the house while the German Cockroach will usually be found in moist or damp areas like kitchens or bathrooms.

Cockroaches carry bacteria that carry diseases, which can be transmitted to humans via exposure to cockroach droppings, eggs, etc. by eating contaminated food.

Termite Control in Boondall

Termites feed exclusively on cellulose materials, which are present in wood, timber, paper, etc. They can travel from their colony to a property through mud tunnels to avoid sunlight. After gaining access into a structure, termites start to work mostly in concealed areas.

They can easily crawl their way into a home from under the floors, up the wall cavities, along plumbing systems, and even the joints in the building concrete. Because termites are great in hiding their activities, property owners only notice their presence when the damage has become noticeable.

In an area like Boondall, which is surrounded by wetlands, termites are a constant threat. To prevent termite inspection, it is important to install physical or chemical termite barriers around the property and do regular termite inspections.

Mosquito Control

Mosquitoes may also be a great concern in Boondall as it is surrounded by wetlands. This is the habitat where they thrive and where females lay their eggs.

These blood-sucking insects are one of the most dangerous on earth because of their ability to spread serious, and most often, fatal diseases in humans and animals. Mosquitoes have killed millions of people throughout history.

Because they lay eggs in standing water, the first preventive measure against infestation is to eliminate all objects that can store water, such as old tyres, buckets, bird baths, pet bowls, and more.

Spider Control in Boondall

There are many species of spiders in Queensland, including the web spinning spiders like the Golden Orb and the St Andrews Cross and ground spiders like the Huntsman, Trapdoor and the Garden Wolf Spider.

Most species of spiders are harmless, though many people avoid them as they find spiders’ appearance scary. However, there are spiders that are poisonous to humans. Bites from spiders such as Red Back, White Tail, Black House Spider and more should be given proper medical attention.

If you are building a new home, renovating or buying a home in Boondall, you will need to consider what termite prevention solutions are available. Our company offers all types of solutions including physical and chemical barriers as well as reticulation systems. You can reach us on

Boondall Hills Termite Hazard Level

High – Very High Risk

Termite Hazard Level Gauge image

According to the Interim Termite Hazard Map by CSIRO, the Brisbane area, where Boondall is located, is in the high-risk category for termite infestation.

Because Bald Hills is close to the sea, the area is a good target by drywood termites, which need high moisture content in the timber they attack.

Throughout Queensland, the most commonly found termites are Subterranean termites and Drywood termites.

The West Indian drywood termite, is the world’s most destructive drywood termite. It is the culprit to massive economic damage to timber houses in Queensland, including properties in Boondall.

  • A coastal environment like Wynnum is prone to termite and vermin attacks.

  • The number one thing that attracts termites is water or moisture. It is almost a guarantee that if a home has water leakage problems, it will soon be invaded by termites, if it hasn’t been already.

  • Damage to homes, whether made from weatherboard, is likely if termites, or white ants, are left unchecked.
